Thank you Tile Cleaners ® for dealing with the solvent sealer I had and resealing my hallway; I know it's a pain but you did a great job. I will definitely call you again as I need help with my tiles in the office.

Paul Gold, Gold Coast, QLD

I noticed that some of the tiles in my bathroom walls were loose and the grout was coming off. I am a very busy so kept on postponing calling someone to fix it. One day I got home and the loose tiles were lying broken on the floor. Can you imagine my frustration? I rang my brother in panic and he gave me Tile Cleaners' contact details. I rang them straight away. The guys told me I needed a tiler and professional regrouting work done so I thought it would take ages to fix my problem. However they organized the work very well. I had my tiles fixed on Friday night the same week and the entire bathroom regrouted on Saturday. Thank you some much for your quick help; it was such a relief.

Kerry McMyre, Mosman, NSW

We got our tiles more than 25 years ago. We were told that we had a solvent sealer on our tiles, which apparently most companies wouldn't be able to strip off. However we rang a couple of places to check them out. No luck. A friend of mine recommended Tile Cleaners. We rang the guys and they agreed to have a look the next day. We decided to go ahead with the job after getting a satisfactory quote. Tile Cleaners team stripped and resealed our old tiles. We are very grateful for your help guys. Thank you again.

Olivia and Andrew Clark, Hornsby, NSW

Bathroom grout can present a tricky and annoying conundrum. The majority of the bathroom is made out of tile and not grout, the grout simply seals the bathroom tiles together yet it seems to be the place that gets the filthiest of all in the bathroom. The bathroom tile grout can seem to get filthy in a sneaky way, it will appear clean for weeks on end and then suddenly one day it bursts into green, black and brown streaks notifying us that it must be cleaned in order to avoid a grimy attack of mould.

Let's face it. Grout is nobody's friend. It's usually bright white, which just means Every. Little. Blemish. Shows. It's porous, so stains soak in and stick around. And it's very narrow, making it all the more difficult to get to. But here we have it: a little help to make your least favourite chore a lot more bearable.

Tile Cleaners® experienced technicians can renew your bathroom and save you thousands of dollars in expensive and unnecessary renovation costs. Our grout restoration process is long lasting and of the highest quality, and our grout sealing services will help protect your grout lines for many years.

Why Clean Grout Lines?

With the increase in use of tiles and natural stone by both architects and the general public in recent years cleanliness has become rather problematic. General off the shelf cleaners and a mop may appear to be working when the surface is new but eventually the dirt and soil begins to build up, tiles start to look bland, grout lines lose their colour and can start to turn black.

On running your finger along a grout line it will probably feel greasy, this is due to constant mopping or conventional cleaning which tends to loosen the dirt, move it around and then deposit it in the grout lines. Until now there has been no real solution, people have either accepted the surface can't be cleaned totally and put up with it or in extreme cases rip out the tiles and replace them.

A New Approach To Cleaning Tile & Grout in Bathrooms

The technology and equipment used is completely new to the market and has been developed in conjunction with a range of cleaning products that further enhance the efficiency of our system. Using a combination of heat, water pressure, detergents and vacuum, the surface can be thoroughly and deeply cleaned and sanitised with all debris being removed rather than moved around and then deposited again.

Once the surface has been thoroughly cleaned it can then be treated to help prevent the build up of contamination from recurring. Grout lines can either be clear sealed or colour sealed. Clear sealing involves applying a colourless protective treatment, this is not a coating that sits on the surface but an impregnation that not only seals, but allows the grout to breath as well. It is recommended that all natural materials are clear sealed, limestone, sandstone, travertine and slate to name but a few. The clear seal helps prevent contamination from spillages of tea, coffee, wine, beer etc. it also prevents the build up of algae, moss and verdigree when used outside.

One of the key secrets to great looking tiles is great looking grout. Grout is porous and as a result, easily absorbs grease, dirt and limescale. Spillages such as from wine, lemonades or any greasy substances can cause marks and patches in the joints in the floor. Grout between wall-tiles, particularly in damp areas like bathrooms, can and will become dirty and unattractive as a result of mould, mildew and limescale.

Mould is one of the most unsightly problems, usually forming in the wettest area of a room, like the bottom of the shower or bath, and when left unchecked can spread to cover larger areas.

In bath or shower areas, continued use of acid formulated shampoos and soaps will cause discolouration of grout joints, causing yellow orange and pink stains to appear in the grout over time, which can be prevented by protecting using a grout sealer which forms an invisible barrier between the grout and the surface, protecting your investment for years to come.

In general, porous flooring such as terracotta should be sealed every two to three years to lock in the beauty of the tile and protect it from wear. Mexican terracotta in particular is very porous and difficult to clean. Mexican terracotta does not get baked in a kiln, instead they are left to bake outside in the sun and if it is a cloudy day the temperature can fluctuate leading to an increase in the porosity of the tile.

Grout Sealing

Tile Cleaners® Grout Sealing Process Protects Your Grout Lines For Years To Come. We Have A Revolutionary Tile & Grout Cleaning Process That Makes Your Grout Lines Stain Resistant, Waterproof And Sanitary For Years Comes.

Why Seal Grout Lines?

Ceramic or porcelain tiles usually aren't a problem to keep clean, they are most often glazed and baked from the tile manufacturer and repel soil and stains extremely well. The problem, as we all know, IS the grout. And unfortunately most grout is not sealed, at all.

As soil soaks into unsealed or poorly sealed porous grout, it builds up and compacts. This impacted soil and grime has nowhere to go but on top of the existing dirt on the grout, causing layer upon layer of soiling inside the grout. When it’s cleaned the traditional way with a mop and bucket, the embedded dirt is not fully removed – because it can’t be fully removed on unsealed or traditionally-sealed grout.

Grout is an extremely porous sand based material that absorbs and holds stains easily. Just as tiles are sealed to protect them grout can also be sealed. Often if you have a ceramic or porcelain tile that doesn't need sealing you can overlook the need to seal the grout.

However, for non-porous tiles, the grout tends to act as a magnet to any grime, dirt or mould. Mopping can just end up transferring grime into the porous grout. Sealing grout can also extend the life of your tiles as grout is the entry point for moisture that can lift tiles.

Tile Cleaners® have specialised methods to successfully seal grout lines, either on their own or as part of an entire surface seal. We strongly recommend that any newly laid porous tiles and grout be sealed immediately so the area gains the full benefit of the protection. Tiling is not an inexpensive exercise, so why not protect your investment?

Sealing your grout lines will:

  • Reduce staining and grime build up
  • Eliminate bacteria forming
  • Helps prevent and reduce efflorescence build-up
  • Extend the life of your tiles
  • Make maintenance easier
  • Lowers the risk of cracking and flaking grout

How do you Seal Grout Lines?

Tile Cleaners® have specialised methods for sealing grout lines to ensure the best possible quality protection is achieved. If the entire tile is a natural stone or porous porcelain then it is suggested to seal the entire area. It would be pointless to only seal grout lines on a porous tile. The common misconception is that a glazed tile cannot only have the grout lines sealed. This is false. The grout line can be sealed on their own with no residue left on the glazed tile. The sealer will be strategically brushed on and the residue extracted off the tile before drying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Grout is a construction material used to fill and seal the gaps between tiles or concrete surfaces. It is typically composed of a mixture of cement, water, sand, and sometimes additives for color or improved performance. After tiles are installed, grout is applied to the gaps between them, and any excess grout is wiped away. Over time, the liquid grout hardens and provides stability and a finished look to the tiled surface.

Sealing your grout is highly recommended if you want to maintain the fresh and crisp appearance of your grout lines and preserve their original color. While some manufacturers may argue that it's an unnecessary expense, the benefits become evident when you find yourself scrubbing the grout lines on your hands and knees. Sealing the grout not only makes cleaning easier but also extends the lifespan of the grout, especially in areas prone to moisture and outdoor exposure.

There are different types of grout sealers available, but it is important to choose the right one for your specific needs. Generally, a penetrating sealer is recommended for grout as it can effectively penetrate the porous surface and provide long-lasting protection. Surface sealers or topical sealers are not typically recommended for grout as they may not adhere well and can result in an uneven appearance. However, if you are sealing the entire tiled area, a topical sealer can be used, and it will also provide some protection to the grout. It is important to select the appropriate sealer based on the specific requirements of your grout and tiles.

While sealing your grout will make it easier to maintain, it does not completely prevent dirt and grime from accumulating. Regular cleaning and maintenance are still necessary to keep your grout looking fresh and clean.

The lifespan of a sealer before reapplication is influenced by the type of sealer used. Topical sealers typically provide protection for approximately 3 years before requiring reapplication. In contrast, impregnating sealers are more durable and can last up to 15 years or even a lifetime when applied to vertical surfaces. However, areas with high foot traffic or frequent use may necessitate more frequent inspections and resealing to ensure ongoing protection. Conducting a water absorption test can help assess the porosity of the surface and aid in selecting a sealer with longer-lasting durability. It is advisable to refer to the guidelines provided by the manufacturer and consult professionals to determine the specific reapplication schedule suitable for your tiles and grout.

Yes you can and it is recommended to seal your grout lines especially if they are a light colour, this will save you the likely cost of having to regrout your tiles only a few years after installation.

Sealing is not a waterproofing solution. If you are experiencing waterproofing issues, such as leaks on balconies, simply sealing the grout will not solve the problem. In such cases, a more comprehensive solution like regrouting may be necessary.

If you are seeking a different aesthetic for your floors, you may consider color sealing as an option. Altering the color of the grout can provide a contemporary appearance without the need for extensive tile replacement. Darker grout shades are gaining popularity as they enhance the tile's visual impact and make dirt less noticeable.

Tile Cleaners® use a per square meter pricing system for grout sealing. You can find the price list on the Tile Cleaners® website for your reference. Prior to starting the work, we will measure the area, discuss the specific details of the job, and provide you with a confirmed cost estimate.

It is advisable to measure each grout area individually. The measurement can be done by multiplying the width of the area by its length. For instance, if a room has a length of 3 meters and a width of 2 meters, the total area would be calculated as 3 meters multiplied by 2 meters, resulting in 6 square meters in total.

Please ensure that all items are removed from the area that will be undergoing grout sealing to ensure it is ready for our arrival.
Don't let dirty grout lines ruin the appearance of your home or business. Grime or mould laden grout can hold harmful bacteria which can harm your customers, family or pets. Have the grout lines professionally cleaned and sealed today and notice the difference instantly.
