We got our tiles more than 25 years ago. We were told that we had a solvent sealer on our tiles, which apparently most companies wouldn't be able to strip off. However we rang a couple of places to check them out. No luck. A friend of mine recommended Tile Cleaners. We rang the guys and they agreed to have a look the next day. We decided to go ahead with the job after getting a satisfactory quote. Tile Cleaners team stripped and resealed our old tiles. We are very grateful for your help guys. Thank you again.

My mother's tiles were old and ugly, as she has been living in the same house her entire life without ever really taking care of her tiles. I called Tile Cleaners to get advice on what to do with them. They came to her house the next day to have a look at my mum's tiles. I am very satisfied with how patient and highly professional you were with my mother. I am sorry I couldn't be there when you arrived, and I am really impressed by how you managed to explain everything to my mom and help her out. Thank you for doing a great job.

Angela Coopers, Concord, NSW

I was about to sell my business and wanted to clean and reseal my vinyl floors to improve the looks of them before having people over for inspection of the property. I did a booking with another company but was horrified when I realized that my floor was back to its horrible look in less than two weeks. I carefully looked up other cleaning companies, scared that I would chose the wrong cleaning company. A friend of mine recommended Tile Cleaners, but after what happened to my floor last time I got it cleaned I was really skeptic, but gave it a go. All I can say is thank you guys so much for a quick response and a good job. I sold the office and left your contact details with the new owner for future cleaning.

It's hard to better granite when it comes to creating an elegant, unique look in your home or business. This tough, beautiful stone has become increasingly popular in kitchens, around pools and in bathrooms, with no two finishes ever looking the same.

The huge array of colours will ensure your space is individual, whilst being one of the easiest tiles to look after. There are 3 popular choices in colours, a pure black, a galaxy black (black with gold speckles) and a Kashmir white (white tiles with specks of different colours). If your home or commercial business needs a lift, granite will most certainly achieve this, making other stones look lack lustre in comparison.

If you have just had granite installed or your existing granite needs a face lift Tile cleaners ® Hobart have you covered. Restoring this stone whether it be cleaning, stripping, grinding or sealing is a job for professionals and you won't find a more experienced company than Tile cleaners ® Hobart. Don't let amateurs ruin what can be an expensive flooring option. Our qualified granite specialists have years of knowledge and practice when it comes to bringing your granite to its best possible condition.

What is Granite?

The word granite comes from the Latin granum, or grain, and is formed deep underneath the earth's surface. It is a solidification of molten rock before it reached the surface and for this reason is extremely dense and difficult to etch or scratch. Geology texts report it is the most abundant rock found in the continental crust and becomes exposed in the cores of many mountain ranges in large areas known as batholiths. This exposure occurs when the overlying sedimentary rocks are eroded and the granite uplifted. It is the most common igneous rock used to make counter tops, tiles, pavers and cemetery monuments. It can bear a significant amount of weight, resist weather and polishes up brilliantly making it one of the most desirable and useful stones.

Its high cost is what reduces its popularity in construction use, with a significantly higher price tag than man-made materials. In major city projects and grand designs it is selected because of its prestige, elegance and durability.

Variations in Granite

It is hard to find two granites that are similar to each other. They are a beautiful, individual stone that come in a wide range of colours. Your tilers will ensure the entire batch is uniform before installing them but these variations can also allow for a unique finish to any property.

Most commonly it is thought of as having darker mottled tones of black or very dark grey, yet its is also available in lighter colours including white, beige, ivory, amber, pale grey and even shades of red, pink or orange.

Because granite is a heavier stone cost variations will rely greatly on the thickness of the cut.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Granite

Like any flooring, granite has good and bad features that should be considered when having it laid in your home or business. Some of its advantages include:

  • Rich, unique and striking natural colours and patterns
  • Durable and weather resistant
  • Does not etch or scratch easily
  • Easy to clean, for high traffic areas
  • Resists staining and grease
  • One of the most durable stones
  • Can take hot contents
  • Does not hold bacteria

Some of the disadvantages of granite include:

  • An expensive stone
  • Heavy in weight (underneath structure needs to be strong)
  • A cold stone (takes longer to warm under foot, and makes a room cooler)

Maintaining Granite

If you don't like cleaning, then granite should be your number one choice in flooring! In comparison to other tiles, granite is extremely easy to keep looking fresh and clean and at its best. For those areas of the house like kitchens and bathrooms that get dirty quickly and hold bacteria it's a great choice. Scratches and stains won't show on this hard wearing stone. It may cost a little more initially but it will save you money in restoration if the proper maintenance program is followed.

Sweeping and mopping the granite floor tiles daily with warm water will do the job. A Stone soap used once a week will ensure the shine remains. Although it is generally unaffected by chemicals, harsh products should be avoided nonetheless.

We provide specialised cleaning, stripping & sealing solutions for Granite floor & wall tiles.

Our equipment can handle both domestic and commercial cleaning jobs, leaving your floors spotless and bacteria free .

Frequently Asked Questions

You will know it's time to have your granite floors stripped, cleaned and sealed once they begin to appear dull or "matte" even after you have given them an efficient regular clean. If you notice that your granite tiles are staining easily, it's a good indication that your previous sealer is wearing off and your granite floors will need to be resealed immediately to prevent permanent staining.

Yes, our tile cleaning services are safe! Tile Cleaners® generally use only the highest quality water based products alongside our state of the art cleaning machinery to provide the best cleaning solution without compromising your granite tiles. Stone tiles are porous and require more attention than man made tiles which is why its extremely important to use the correct products and equipment necessary to bring your granite tiles back to their best possible condition. Tile Cleaners® prides itself on specifically catering for each tile variety.

Tile Cleaners® prefer to use high quality non-solvent based stripping and sealing products. These products are not messy and won't damage your granite tiles or anything else in your home. Current non-solvent based strippers and techniques are more than adequate. Tile Cleaners® technicians can apply solvent based strippers in very specific circumstances, however this requires leaving the premises for up to 48 hours and a very high level of safety and protection.

Here at Tile Cleaners® we understand the importance of your family's safety, which is why Tile Cleaners® prefer to use non-toxic finishing agents as we not only want to protect your granite floors, but your families health too. Materials and agents that present potential health hazards are not in our product portfolio and never have been.

If you want your granite surfaces to be their cleanest and looking their very best you need to have a professional remove as much of the old sealer as possible. Once this is done the cleaning process will be carried out and the sealer applied. You will have the freshest and cleanest possible granite floors once we are finished with the process.

Granite tiles stripping and sealing is simply the process of stripping the coating off the granite floor before resealing it. Granite flooring can look dull and lifeless over time, making it look older and really bringing down the feel of the home. By stripping and resealing, you can bring back the beautiful, lustrous appearance of your granite and eliminate the cost of laying new flooring.

Our professional team will go through the job processes with you step by step so you know exactly what you're getting. The process includes stripping any previous sealer if it was applied, the granite is then thoroughly cleaned and neutralised so that it is free of dust, residue and anything else that can affect the new sealer. A new sealer is applied to the dry granite floor and allowed to set. The newly sealed granite floor will not only look new again, it will be protected and result in your granite becoming easier to maintain.

It depends on the type of sealer used and the amount of foot traffic the granite tiles are being exposed to. Australia's Deepshield® range of impregnating water based sealer's offer long term benefits with Deepshield Gold®, specifically engineered for denser surfaces such as granite lasting up to 15 years. Topical sealer's have a life expectancy of around 3 years. If you have a high amount of foot traffic or perhaps severe weather conditions(for outdoor tiles), you may experience a shorter lifetime. Sealing your granite tiles can also depend on the tiles condition. Once they start showing patchy areas and are staining easily then you should have them resealed. Give us a call and we can assist you with all your enquiries.

Granite floors can be porous, oily or harsh spills can damage the granite tiles and penetrate the pores leaving permanent staining unreachable by domestic cleaning methods. We strongly recommend sealing you granite tiles to keep their natural look and feel, to protect them against permanent staining and to prevent any future accidental damage. They will look their very best for longer and will be easier and more convenient to maintain.

The best time to have your granite tiles sealed is immediately after installation to prevent any accidental staining or damage. You will know that your granite needs sealing once you start noticing patchy sealed areas and/or your granite tiles are staining easier.

Efflorescence is a problem that most porous tiles can face. It's the tendency of the water in the granite to bring salts from the stone to the surface as it evaporates. The water evaporates leaving the salts on the surface resulting in a whitish coating and ruining its finish. The only way to avoid this problem is to seal your granite tiles with one of our highest quality water resistant sealer's and to stop the source of the water that is penetrating the tiles, for example a water pipe leak or damaged grout.

Yes we can. Efflorescence is a build up of salts and can be removed with efflorescence removers and other specialised cleaning techniques. Efflorescence is typically caused by a leakage behind the granite tiles or through damaged grout lines. The efflorescence can be removed but it is important the cause of the efflorescence is resoled.

To keep your granite tiles and grout looking new, Tile Cleaners® recommend cleaning each week with a mild detergent to remove any dirt or grime from the granite surface. Strong detergents(strong acid or alkali) may affect the sealer, mild detergents and pH neutral substances are strongly recommended.

Tile Cleaners® charge per square meter for each separate room. There is a price list on the Tile Cleaners® website for you to review. Before we begin our work we will measure each room individually, confirm the work to be carried out as well as confirm all costs with you.

We recommend that you measure each granite area separately. The simplest way to measure is by multiplying the width by the length. For example a room that is 3 meters long and 2 meters wide is 3 X 2 = 6m2 in total.

Tile Cleaners® technicians can help to move items that one person could be expected to move such as furniture with wheels, light furniture, tables and chairs, however as Tile Cleaners® insurance covers our restoration services, we will not be held liable for any damage caused to furniture or property you request our technicians to move.

Move all furniture and items off the floor so it is ready for when we arrive.
