There is only one real way to restore a marble floor that is to physically grind the surface so as to remove scratches stains and marks and create a smooth light reflective surface. Next we progress through the finer grades as we hone the fresh marble surface with a finer abrasive pad to create a perfectly smooth finish. At this stage there is a sheen to the surface of the marble which can be left at this level and sealed or impregnated. If a deep polish finish is required various polishing techniques can be used to achieve a mirror finish. It is this final marble polishing technique that quickly restores the original glossy appearance and enhances the natural colour to the marble.

Marble stone needs a good planned maintenance schedule in place to preserve it and to delay restoration procedures for as long as possible.

You should generally only use warm water on your marble floors. Never, ever use vinegar on marble. The acid in vinegar damages, actually etches and removes the surface of the marble. After mopping, dry the floor with a cotton towel or use a sh-mop to remove the moisture and prevent water spots. Always dry your marble floors, they spot very easily.

Daily maintenance will consist of dry dust mopping using a clean flat micro-fibre mop. Regular damp mopping will also be required, ideally carried out using a high quality Ph. neutral stone cleaner. Spills should be wiped up promptly to prevent staining or etching, acid and caustic household cleaning solutions can damage the surface of the stone on contact and should be avoided. Similar damage can occur from spillages of acidic based foods and beverages, spills should be wiped up immediately.
