Testimonials

I have several different freshly laid tiles in my new house. All pathways have stone tiles and there are marble tiles in the bathrooms and porcelain in the kitchen. I needed to get them sealed and was not sure if it was possible to seal them all. I contacted Tile Cleaners because my dad recommended them. He had a similar situation in his house and was very happy with the job Tile Cleaners had done. I was very worried about my tiles since they were brand new and very expensive. Tile Cleaners team were very patient with me, explaining how they were going to apply the sealer on different types of tiles, what sealer they would use, how long it would last for and advised me on how to take care of my tiles. I called Tile Cleaners a few times confirming details, asking for prices, making sure they could to the job during the weekend etc. The guys were amazingly patient and helpful. When I had gathered all the information I wanted, I was ready to go ahead. The work done by Tile Cleaners actually took less time than what it took me looking for information about it. Sorry for the pain I caused, and again thank you.

Monica Petrovski, West Beach, SA

I was about to sell my business and wanted to clean and reseal my vinyl floors to improve the looks of them before having people over for inspection of the property. I did a booking with another company but was horrified when I realized that my floor was back to its horrible look in less than two weeks. I carefully looked up other cleaning companies, scared that I would chose the wrong cleaning company. A friend of mine recommended Tile Cleaners, but after what happened to my floor last time I got it cleaned I was really skeptic, but gave it a go. All I can say is thank you guys so much for a quick response and a good job. I sold the office and left your contact details with the new owner for future cleaning.

Brian Hook, Bayswater, WA

I noticed that some of the tiles in my bathroom walls were loose and the grout was coming off. I am a very busy so kept on postponing calling someone to fix it. One day I got home and the loose tiles were lying broken on the floor. Can you imagine my frustration? I rang my brother in panic and he gave me Tile Cleaners' contact details. I rang them straight away. The guys told me I needed a tiler and professional regrouting work done so I thought it would take ages to fix my problem. However they organized the work very well. I had my tiles fixed on Friday night the same week and the entire bathroom regrouted on Saturday. Thank you some much for your quick help; it was such a relief.

What is Quarry Tile?

Quarry tile is made of clay and usually has a rougher finish than most pressed out ceramic tiles. You can usually spot a quarry tile from the small roller grooves on the back of the tiles where they were extruded out of the machine(think giant pasta machine). Quarry tile is extremely durable and is a great choice for most rooms in your home, especially high traffic areas. When quarry tile is sealed, the tiles become water resistant which makes them a great choice for bathrooms and kitchens too.

Quarry tiles are relatively inexpensive, which makes them great for those on a budget. The durability, combined with the budget savings of quarry tiles, makes them an ideal choice for many homes all around the world. They have become more popular over the last few years as many people want a beautiful floor that is durable and easy to maintain.

A classic hard wearing tile often utilised in high traffic areas such as reception areas and also often used for outdoor patio areas and porches. Although hard wearing quarry tiles are often neglected and hidden under years of grime, however all is not lost as they can be restored.

Sealing Quarry Tiles

Quarry tiles are often unglazed and need to be maintained with sealers. Quarry tile is vulnerable to staining and, like brick can be broken if heavy objects are dropped on it. Tile that has been neglected for a long time may require a professional clean to return the tile to its best possible appearance. Some cleansers are better suited to indoor applications, so please read labels carefully.

Two main sealing options exist for quarry tiles

  • Deep Penetrating Impregnating Sealer
  • (Transparent Finish/Colour Enhancing Finish)

  • Topical Sealer
  • (Gloss/Satin/Matte Finish)

A deep penetrating impregnating sealer protects quarry tiles and the grout from water and oil based stains by chemically reacting with the surface pores using nano-technology to create a breathable protective barrier. An impregnating sealer will protect the quarry tile surface and grout from absorbing stains while also resulting in cleaning and maintenance becoming much easier. Australia's Deepshield™ range of impregnating water based sealer's offer long term benefits lasting for up to 10 years while Deepshield™ Gold, based on the latest fluoro-bond technology lasts for up to 15 years. A penetrating impregnating transparent sealer enters the pores of your quarry tile and once cured will not change the look of the tile. A penetrating colour enhancing sealer is designed to enhance and enrich the look of quarry tile surfaces.

Tile Cleaners® are the experts at applying all types of sealer and will ensure your quarry tiles look their absolute best. Tile Cleaners® experienced technicians can apply a topical sealer when especially required to create a high gloss, satin sheen or matte finish to your surfaces. Topical sealer is also helpful in situations where the old solvent based sealer can not be completely removed or when required to hide certain types of damage. Topical sealer's have a life expectancy of around 3 years.

You can easily test how porous your quarry tiles are by applying a drop of water to the surface and watching how the water is absorbed by the quarry. You can then see how any type of water based stain can be absorbed by the quarry tile surface and grout.

Save yourself time, effort and money and let our professional team bring your quarry tiles back to their best possible condition.

Quarry Tile Maintenance

  • Clean your quarry tile thoroughly with a canister vacuum cleaner. Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar as this may drag grit across the tiles causing scratches to the sealer or wax.
  • Mop your floor with a cleanser. Consider using an enzyme-based, antibacterial cleanser, particularly if your quarry tile is in the kitchen as these types of cleansers cut grease and eliminate odours.
  • Rinse your mopped floor to remove cleanser residue. It is often a good idea to use soft or distilled water if your tap water has high mineral content since you don't want to leave deposits on your tiles.
  • Wipe your floor dry with towels. This is a useful step to determine if your tile has haze or if it is becoming discoloured.(Wax can become yellowed as it ages.)
  • If your tile floor looks like it has a film on it, add white vinegar to clear water and re-mop your floor. This should remove any haze. Dry the tile again.

Stripping & Sealing Quarry Tiles

In most cases we will be able to chemically remove your existing floor finish and treat any staining and marks that will have occurred due to the ineffectiveness of your current floor seal. When our technicians are satisfied that we have achieved the best results possible- preferably by returning the quarry to its natural state, then we allow a sufficient drying time before applying between 2-4 coats of our specialist quarry tile floor sealer.

Quarry Tile Restoration

Tile Cleaners® technicians have years of experience in restoring and refurbishing quarry tile flooring. Even the most neglected quarry tile surfaces can very often be restored with remarkable results. There is only one real way to restore quarry that is by returning the quarry to its natural state, let it dry, then seal it with between 2-4 coats of impregnating penetrating sealer and then apply a surface coating finish. Only this process is able to create a long lasting finish and stain proof your quarry tiles.

You can count on our expertise, professionalism and experience to give you the highest level of satisfaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

You will know it's time to have your quarry tile floors stripped, cleaned and sealed once they begin to appear dull or "matte" even after you have given them an efficient regular clean. If you notice that your quarry tiles are staining easily, it's a good indication that your previous sealer is wearing off and your quarry tile floors will need to be resealed immediately to prevent permanent staining.

Yes, our tile cleaning services are safe! Tile Cleaners® generally use only the highest quality water based products alongside our state of the art cleaning machinery to provide the best cleaning solution without compromising your quarry tiles.

At Tile Cleaning, we take great care to minimize mess during the stripping and sealing process of terracotta tiles. Our approach involves using high-quality, non-solvent-based stripping and sealing products, which are designed to ensure a clean and tidy process. These products are specifically selected to minimize the risk of damaging your floors, walls, or skirting boards. Our team of technicians is trained to handle the process with utmost care, ensuring that your surfaces are protected throughout. In most cases, non-solvent-based strippers and techniques are used, which effectively achieve excellent results without causing any harm. However, in rare circumstances where solvent-based strippers are necessary, additional precautions may be taken. This could involve temporarily vacating the premises for up to 48 hours to ensure safety and provide optimal protection. Rest assured that our experienced technicians will take all necessary measures to maintain a clean and damage-free environment during the stripping and sealing process.

Tile Cleaning places a strong emphasis on the safety of your family during the cleaning process. They ensure that only non-toxic finishing agents are used, eliminating the presence of any potentially harmful substances or ingredients. Tile Cleaning takes great care in selecting cleaning products, specifically excluding any ingredients that could pose health risks. This commitment to safety not only helps preserve the condition of your stone tiles but also reflects Tile Cleaning's dedication to prioritizing the overall health and safety of your household. By choosing Tile Cleaning, you can have peace of mind knowing that the products used in the cleaning process are free from toxic ingredients.

If you want your quarry floors to be their cleanest and looking their very best you need to have a professional remove as much of the old sealer as possible. Once this is done the cleaning process will be carried out and the sealer applied. You will have the freshest and cleanest possible quarry tilevfloors once we are finished with the process.

Quarry tiles stripping and sealing is simply the process of stripping the coating off the quarry tile floor before resealing it. Quarry tile flooring can look dull and lifeless over time, making it look older and really bringing down the feel of the home. By stripping and resealing, you can bring back the beautiful, lustrous appearance of your quarry and eliminate the cost of laying new flooring.

Our professional team will go through the job processes with you step by step so you know exactly what you're getting. The process includes stripping any previous sealer if it was applied, the quarry tile is then thoroughly cleaned and neutralised so that it is free of dust, residue and anything else that can affect the new sealer. A new sealer is applied to the dry quarry tile floor and allowed to set. The newly sealed quarry tile floor will not only look new again, it will be protected and result in your quarry tile surfaces becoming easier to maintain.

It depends on the type of sealer used and the amount of foot traffic the quarry tiles are being exposed to. Australia's Deepshield® range of deep impregnating water based sealer's, offer long term benefits with Deepshield Gold® lasting up to 15 years. Topical sealer's have a life expectancy of around 3 years. If you have a high amount of foot traffic or perhaps severe weather conditions(for outdoor tiles), you may experience a shorter lifetime. Sealing your quarry tiles can also depend on the tiles condition. Once they start showing patchy areas and are staining easily then you should have them resealed. Give us a call and we can assist you with all your enquiries.

Quarry tile floors can damage easily, any oily or harsh spills can damage the quarry tiles and penetrate the pores leaving a permanent stain, unreachable by domestic cleaning methods. We strongly recommend sealing you quarry tiles to keep their fresh look and feel, to protect them against permanent staining and to prevent any future accidental damage. They will look their very best for longer and will be easier and more convenient to maintain.

The best time to have your quarry tiles sealed is immediately after installation to prevent any accidental staining or damage. You will know that your quarry tiles need sealing once you start noticing patchy sealed areas of the floor and/or your quarry tiles are staining easier.

Efflorescence is a problem that quarry tiles and most porous tiles can face. It's the tendency of the water in the tiles to bring salts from the material to the surface as it evaporates. The water evaporates leaving the salts on the surface resulting in a whitish coating and ruining its finish. The only way to avoid this problem is to seal your quarry tiles with one of our highest quality water resistant sealer's and to stop the source of the water that is penetrating the tiles, for example a water pipe leak or damaged grout.

Yes we can. Efflorescence is a build up of salts and can be removed with efflorescence removers and other specialised cleaning techniques. Efflorescence is typically caused by a leakage behind the quarry tiles or through damaged grout lines. The efflorescence can be removed but it is important the cause of the efflorescence is resoled.

To keep your quarry tiles and grout looking new, Tile Cleaners® recommend cleaning each week with a mild detergent to remove any dirt or grime from the quarry surface. Strong detergents(strong acid or alkali) may affect the sealer, mild detergents and pH neutral substances are strongly recommended.

Tile Cleaners® charge per square meter for each separate room. There is a price list on the Tile Cleaners® website for you to review. Before we begin our work we will measure each room individually, confirm the work to be carried out as well as confirm all costs with you.

We recommend that you measure each area separately. The simplest way to measure is by multiplying the width by the length. For example a room that is 3 meters long and 2 meters wide is 3 X 2 = 6m2 in total.

Tile Cleaning provides assistance with moving furniture during the floor sealing process. Their team of dedicated technicians is available to help with the relocation of furniture items that can be reasonably managed by one person, such as those with wheels or lightweight furniture like tables and chairs. However, it is important to keep in mind that while Tile Cleaning takes precautions to protect your belongings, they cannot be held responsible for any damages that may occur during the furniture moving process. To ensure the safety of valuable or fragile items, it is recommended to either relocate them to a secure area or properly secure them before the technicians arrive. By taking these necessary precautions, you can help ensure the safety of your furniture and minimize the risk of potential damage while the floor sealing process is being carried out.

Move all furniture and items off the floor so it is ready for when we arrive.
